Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson’s Massive Success

Two of Youtube’s most popular creators, Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson, recently collaborated on a makeup collection sold and produced by Jeffree’s self-owned makeup company, Jeffree Star Cosmetics. The duo boasts over 40 million subscribers combined.

Jeffree Star, one of YouTubes most popular “beauty vloggers’ has a loyal fan base; each of his videos typically garner over 10 million views. Shane Dawson posts documentary style video series on his channel, which is simply titled “Shane”. He averages 10-20 million views on each video.

The massively popular launch was hyped up by Shane Dawson, who released documentary style videos leading up to the release that followed the process of the two creating the collection. Dawson’s video revealing the Collection to fans was posted on October 30th, 2019 and garnered 19 million views.

The collaboration, titled the ‘Conspiracy Collection’ launched on November 1st 2019 10am PST. According to a Google trends search data report, searches for ‘Jeffree Star’, ‘Shane Dawson’, and ‘conspiracy’ peaked on release day as well as the day leading up to the launch.

Searches for Morphe, a beauty retailer carrying the collection, also spiked on launch day.

Fans of the YouTube stars eagerly awaited the launch as Dawson released his series. The first episode of Dawson’s series released on October 1st, 2019, which is indicated by the start of the red spike prior to October 6th. Leading up to the launch on the 1st, Google search trend reports show increased search activity for both Shane and Jeffree.

Promotion for the collection was done solely though social media. Dawson’s Youtube series and the duo’s large subscriber base resulted in the collection selling out in a few hours.

Coronavirus Spreads From China

A new virus, that mimics symptoms of the flu and pneumonia, is making its way out of its origin of Wuhan China. The virus is said to be extremely contagious and can also be fatal.

Public panic began on January 21st, after news sources such as the New York Times began to release articles discussing the first American case. A man in Washington State was the first American to be diagnosed with the deadly virus. As of January 24th, many news sources have confirmed the second American case is a woman in Illinois.

As public information spread, so did curiosity. According to a Google trends search data report, searches for the virus spiked on the 21st, after reports on the virus made headlines. Since the 21st, searches have still shown higher numbers than ever before.

Despite being in the midst of flu season, searches for coronavirus surpassed those for the flu, reaching its peak on January 21st. Searches for coronavirus symptoms also began to pop up on the same day.
