Red Light Camera Locations in Chicago

If you are a Chicago driver, you’ve likely received a ticket in the mail showing you in your car running though a light. Usually costing around $100 a violation, these tickets are no joke.

Chicago currently has 149 active red light cameras scattered though its borders. The majority of the cameras are located in the north half of the city.

Chicago has since decreased the number of red light cameras in city limits, mostly due to community pressure on the government. Several suburbs outside of Chicago have also started to reduce or ban red light cameras. Despite the reduction in cameras, the city still generated $56.6 million of revenue in 2018 from them.

A 2018 Case Reserve study showed that red light cameras were resulting in more accidents. The researchers found that in Huston rear-end collisions actually increased. A separate study from the Chicago Tribune had similar findings, revealing that rear-end crashes were in fact up 22% in 2014.
